Scope and Content: Consists of ten typescript drafts of individual short stories, some of which
were published in Gulf Coast Stories (1956). Included with the papers is a
photocopy typescript statement, “In Defense of Myself,” written (according to
Helen Caldwell Cushman) by Caldwell in defense of his novel, The Bastard. Also
included are original pen and ink illustrations by Louis Macouillard for
Caldwell's When You Think of Me (Boston: Little Brown & Co., 1959).
The stories are arranged alphabetically by title.
