| The author, Bruce McAllister,
researched the subject of stress-induced extra sensory perception (ESP)
and the possibility of a CIA project rumored to have existed during the
Vietnam Conflict, in which possible uses of mind control were explored.
He also gathered accounts of ESP experience from numerous Vietnam
veterans and contacted various government agencies (American and
Vietnamese) for information. This research became the basis for the
writings housed within this collection. |

(Author’s handwritten and signed note: “Rough draft of “Little Boy Blue”,
the first version (not draft) of 'Dream Baby.' This was a
third-person Ludlum-like thriller using the Vietnam-ESP research but set
in California with an ESP commando team. This version contained a
3-page section told in first-person ‘colloquial’ by an unnamed army
nurse which became the short story 'Dream Baby' (with the short story
later becoming the novel Dream Baby. After finishing the
novel Dream Baby [I went] back to this novel and pulled sections
of it to make the short story “Little Boy Blue” (which appeared in
Omni [Magazine]). This novel was never revised or polished…”) |

started formal research for a novel about them. Those account led
to this story…a story conceived and finally finished separately from the
