Scope and Content: Consists of the scripts for 52 plays with
corresponding musical scores plus 16 musical scores without scripts. Included in the collection are
autograph and typescript lyrics, correspondence, theatre programs, press
cuttings, and miscellaneous. The dated scripts and their corresponding musical scores are arranged
chronologically; undated scripts and scores follow in an alphabetical
sequence. Any correspondence and/or press cuttings related to a play's
production are inter-filed behind the script/score to which they
pertain. The majority of the scripts and song lyrics were written by
Bruestle, the musical scores by Swier. The 16 unidentified musical scores and songs are arranged in an
alphabetical sequence by title as are the autograph and typescript lyrics
that succeed them. The miscellaneous consists of material such as Swier's essay on the Opera,
his piano and vocal compositions, and his drawings, a booklet of poems by
Bruestle, and a variety of published music by other composers/songwriters.
Administrative/Biographical History:
Beaumont Bruestle was a long time member of The University of Tulsa
faculty.
