Biographical/Historical note
The Ancient Order of United Workmen, or AOUW, was a fraternal organization, established in 1868 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. At its height it numbered approximately 320,000 members.
Scope and Contents note
The AOUW Papers consist of the meeting minutes, financial records, and membership rolls of the AOUW Grand Lodge of Guthrie Oklahoma, all dating from 1900-1902. Also included among the papers is a photograph of the casket of Father J. J. Upchurch, the organization's founder, as he lay in state at the Masonic Hall in St. Louis, Missouri, 23 January 1887.
